The Separation Anxiety inflicted on Me by Me as a result of my New Years resolutions

As we head into night three of 2016 I just have to tell you about how the first night went ! You will know from my blog post on NYE that one of my big things was to leave the technology downstairs from now on to give the head a rest ! See that post here

As I tucked myself up in my leaba I realised I hadn’t checked the weather App … I use Weather Pro on my phone.  It’s so detailed and accurate with the weather here I’ve just realised that checking it is part of my bedtime ritual … Addicted to a weather App that’s been telling me nothing but mm of rainfall for the past month ! Not good 😉

Jesus it’s very bright did I leave the light on outside … Out I get, light off but the Christmas star in the back garden that’s on a timer to go off an hour ago is still leading Santa safely home … Getting restless ! Thinking I must remember to add something to a Blog Post I started earlier in the day … I’ll put a note in my phone … Lean over no phone ! Oh oh 😙

I’m also thinking about an event I’m involved in organising in early February. I must email the hotel … I’ll put a note in my phone. What day of the week is Paddys day? I’ll check my phone !

I’m thinking of the stove downstairs that’s not doing its job since its been installed ! HIS baby not mine ! We now have an antenna type chimney pipe soaring into the sky that’s letting in water … I’m trying to count to 10 … LETTING IN WATER and he reckons it’s a thing of nothing … 1, 2, 3, …. I opened it to add fuel earlier and the puff of smoke would have killed a small baby not to mind send me heaving backwards with the cough ! He’s so pissed off with it but won’t give in just yet.

OH … Just thought of a new blog post ! Where’s my phone I must jot down a few ideas in the notes section ! No phone

So by now you’ve got the moral of my story ! What did we ever do without the good old I Phone which we use for messages, emails, calendar, writing the shopping list, social media, playing Sudoku and checking the Weather.

My mobile office

What happened in the good old days, no instant messages, no checking the weather or emailing a query somewhere. Were they better off with the amount of headspace they had that we don’t !

What about Gerry Google, the best teacher, advisor, doctor etc that I’ve ever ever met ! I remember reading a while back that we get as much information in a day that our grandparents did in a lifetime ! At that I would be of the opinion that I learnt an awful lot from my Gran.

So here’s to Night #3 …

Send me some good karma to help me Sleep

Turning 40 – could I have finally started to grow up?

Brilliant read people. I’m like wtf – that’s me the whole way through

The Now Moment

So I turned 40 this week… copenhagen_40_co2

I am not sure where the last ten years went but I know they have been busy with motherhood, marriage, readjusting to a life outside Dublin, and did I mention motherhood? I have evolved from footloose and fancy free to no respite and responsibilities.

Here are a few things I have noticed about myself and my coming of age…. have I finally grown up?

Other people’s courage

This mother inspires me. What will be a wonderful achievement for her son who has Cerebral Palsy to take part in a marathon

lukesjourneyblog

The precedent for this possibility came from a you-tube video ” I can only imagine ” which was discovered by Luke’s brother Robert a few years ago. It features a father and son duo, Dick and Rick Hoyt from Holland, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Rick has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair and together they have completed several marathons, right upto Ironman Triathlons.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cxqe77-Am3w

Darkness into Light Dingle

Just a short post on my morning – 9th of May and the first ever Darkness into light in Dingle.  From the first talks that this event was happening I was doing it.  Didn’t matter if I was the only one there so it was with great gung-ho I hopped out of bed at 3.15a.m.  Looked out the window.  Lights on in the next two houses.  Are they going too I wondered ! Jesus is this going to be a big thing ?

Cuppa in and off I went.  Collected my Pinterest fanatic friend on the way. Parked up, said hellos, and off we went and walked.  It didn’t matter that it was dark. We were here to walk for the cause. Job done.

It wasn’t until we got back that I/we realised the real reason why we were here at this unearthly hour.  While I am absolutely blessed not to have been affected directly by suicide I have no doubt that there was lots of pain around Dingle Marina this morning.  The crowd was huge.  I never imagined such a turn out.

I had never thought of doing a blog on my morning walk but the more I thought about it – I am the mother of two young boys in this world  – ages 7 and 5.5.  It instilled in me the fact that we must bring up our kids with the gift of communication.  Being able to talk.  To bring them up with compassion and feeling.  To help them understand that there are others in the world who might not feel as good as they do. To help and encourage them to be able to express themselves.  To be in tune with self awareness.

As we watched daylight sneak through the dark and the still water reflecting the sky overhead I did think to myself – someone here is looking at those birds from a totally different angle than me.  I marvelled at their reflection in the water.  I have no doubt someone there looked up and saw it as a sign from their loved one in heaven.

Pieta House, I have no doubt does wonderful work and we were honoured that Dingle was one of their chosen venues this morning.

Well done everyone.

Luke’s Family

A hugely inspirational story about this young man. There are no limits.

lukesjourneyblog

This blog is about our son Luke and his intention to participate in the Dingle Half Marathon www.dinglemarathon.ieon 5th of September 2015, pushed in his wheelchair by his uncle Gerard O’Grady.

Start of the Dingle Marathon

We have three wonderful sons Robert, Luke and John. Luke, the middle man is 27 years old and has West’s Syndrome which means he has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. This necessitates that he uses a wheelchair. He’s an outdoorsy man who likes being out in the fresh air, the wind and loves a bit of ” craic”.

John, Luke & Robert

Because of his disabilities Luke needs to be facilitated to participate in most activities but he’s up for a challenge and some of his achievements to date include horse riding, boogie-boarding and canoeing to name but a few!

And next where did the idea come from to run in the Dingle Half…

The idea

lukesjourneyblog

Luke’s uncle, Gerard has been running 10kms and half marathons the past couple of years around North Kerry and Dingle. At mass one Sunday morning last December he got a flash of inspiration to take Luke with him on the Dingle Marathon 2015. This idea was followed by a phone call to us ( the parents!) wondering if it would be possible. We were delighted and the response was a positive. Next step was talk to the man himself…

When he came home at Christmas on holidays we mentioned the idea. Initially I’m not sure he was getting it – maybe a bit of disbelief that ‘yeah this could be possible for me!’ But by the end of the holidays and on his return to Camphill in Kilkenny and talking to his carers about it, he was excited and enthusiastic and they shared those same emotions and were heartfelt in…

Off to the Wedding – Maternity Style

After chatting to my lovely friend in Cork at the weekend I started thinking maternity style.  Herself over the road is expecting too. Think she has one wedding.

Anyway herself in Cork is in a blissful state of pregnancy until not one, not two but three wedding invites have arrived in the door.  Add that to three days babysitting pay for hero no. 1, three long days watching himself get happily merry and three drives home in the dark of night with pains and aches and ankles like the grandmother of the bride after dancing all night.

Thoughts spring to Kate, blissful before and after, where are my team of “miracle workers”? Then suddenly what will I wear?, how big will I be ? whose going to what wedding?, can I wear the same dress twice and on and on and on and then a peak in the mirror and then uugghhh … Let’s sleep on it !

First things first, if only I’d known there is maternity wear for hire back in my day I’d be straight in the door flying. Countless dresses I bought that never made me feel in anyway ready for a wedding. Check out Www.stylemomashop.ie. for hire👍🏻

You know the score with regards to accessorising with maternity wear … Keep it simple … Try team your dress with shoes and a bag you already have in the wardrobe. They’re are lots of great flat sandals out there for a small price that you will be dying to put on once you sit down to your dinner !
I love the simplicity of the baby blue from Www.houseoffraser.co.uk … Add silver accessories for a dressy day out or wear it lots of times afterwards with flats … Great dress!

Get a blow dry … Fake tan and a big smile to help you cope with the amount of times you’ll answer the question “how long are you gone?” And manage to keep sane while they all get merrily merry !

For you Pam, E
